This employee will interview and assess consumer’s vocational experiences, skills, interests, and other relevant factors to determine the consumer’s employability. Consumers with employability potential will be referred to the Texas Workforces Commission (TWC). If the individual is sponsored by TWC they will be referred for supported employment services. This position is responsible for contacting local business and employers to procure community employment opportunities for qualified consumers. The Employment specialist/Job Coach is responsible for providing on the job training or job coaching for all community placements unless the employer specifies otherwise. Administratively, this individual is responsible for fulfilling all TWC documentation and billing requirements and for participating in the consumer staffing process. This employee will practice and perform their assigned duties and conduct themselves in a Trauma Informed manner. Performs related work duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED: Graduation from a standard senior high school or documentation that the General Equivalency Examination has been obtained.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid Texas driver’s license and must be insurable on the Center’s insurance. No more than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years, must have proof of current liability insurance.
Certification in First Aid, CPR/AED, and Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) is required. This position will maintain other training and/or certification deemed necessary by TWC and/ or this Center.
Must obtain and maintain: Job Skills Trainer/Job Coach Certification; Job Placement Specialist Certification; and Supported Employment Specialist Certification thru the University of North Texas Workplace Inclusion and Sustainable Employment. These certifications are web-based classes requiring 15-30 contact hours for certification. The Center will pay for any/all costs associated with obtaining these certifications.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: A minimum of three years’ experience working with and/or training persons with intellectual disabilities and mental illness in a vocational setting is required. Knowledge of consumer care techniques, and goal implementation. Ability to coordinate schedules and work activities. Knowledge of basic record keeping, documentation, and report writing. Ability to analyze a job a break into manageable components. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple schedules and deadlines. Ability to meet in public and participate in public speaking engagements. Knowledge of interviewing and assessment techniques and procedures.
