Registered Behavior Technician

Title: Registered Behavior Technician
Location: San Angelo, Texas

The registered behavior technician works as part of a treatment team at MHMR's Autism Behavior and Communication Center for Children, implementing individualized ABA intervention and activities according to the treatment plan.  The behavior technician provides direct one on one and small group specialized behavior intervention according to goals described in the treatment plan.  Interventions consist of skill acquisition for self-help skills, academic skills, social skills, communication skills, vocational skills, and basic attending skills.  The behavior technician assists with preference assessments and functional analyses, conduct direct observations, collects data, and summarized data.  Documents training progress and implements treatment plans as directed.  Interventions are provided during intense one on one training sessions, requiring high levels of energy and enthusiasm maintained throughout the program day.  The behavior technician receives clinical supervision and/or coaching from the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) and/or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), and employment supervisor by the IDD Director of New Projects.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  High School diploma or GED required. College-level courses in behavioral science area preferred (psychology, social work, sociology, rehabilitation, education, etc.) or training in ABA and/or VBA and/or experience working with children/adolescents with autism in a group, individual, or classroom setting.  Experience working with children, especially with IDD or autism, and/or implementation of ABA techniques preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:  Must have a current Texas driver's license and be insurable under the Center's liability insurance.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Must relate well to children and their families and demonstrate the ability to interact with children in a group and individual settings with the guidance of the BCBA/BCaBC.  Requires an energetic individual with a strong work ethic and high level of patience and flexibility to adapt and perform in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment, with the ability to meet scheduling commitments.  Should have basic knowledge of the principles of ABA and Verbal Behavior with the ability to accept and incorporate constructive criticism and a continual stream of clinical guidance.  Must demonstrate a commitment to provide exceptional customer service to patients, consumers, co-workers, and the ability to answer questions within job authority or direct questions to correct individuals.  Expectations include using polite, respectful, and pleasant voice and words when interacting with others; willingness to learn and grow professionally, adequate and appropriate communication with consumers, caregivers, and supervisors for continual progression of treatment plans; and active participation as a member of an integrated team of professionals.

PHYSICAL DEMAND AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Position has frequent physical demand requirements, which include flexibility, lifting, and transferring skills, and full range of motion in all joints.  Will be expected to perform physical agility activities, which relate to the essential function of the job.  Agility requirements include the ability to scoot, bend, kneel carry and lift up to 50lbs., grasp and perform life-saving activities such as CPR and PMAB techniques.  Requires adherence to work practices that meet health and safety guidelines and requirements including washes hands frequently and between contact.  Wear closed-toe shoes.  No dangling earrings or large necklaces or bracelets which could be distracting or encourage injury.  Assists other staff when immediately necessary for safety or stepping in to assist with consumers not assigned to them.

Salary: $1,825.00 monthly
Hours: Monday -Friday, 8a.m. -5p.m.
