The primary responsibility of the Job Coach/Employment Specialist is to interview and assess consumer’s vocational experiences, skills, interest, and other relevant factors to determine the consumer’s employability. Consumers with the employability potential will be referred to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). If the individual is sponsored by TWC they will be referred back for supported employment services. This position is responsible for contacting local businesses and employers to procure community employment opportunities for qualified consumers. The Employment Specialist/Job Coach is responsible for providing on the job training or job coaching for all community placements unless the employer specifies otherwise. Administratively, this individual is responsible for fulfilling all TWC documentation and billing requirements and for participating in the consumer staffing process. All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a standard senior high school or documentation the General Equivalency Examination has been obtained.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must obtain and maintain Job Skills Trainer/Job Coach certification; Job Placement Specialist certification; and Supported Employment Specialist Certification thru University of North Texas Workplace Inclusion and Sustainable Employment. These certifications are web-based classes requiring 15-30 contact hours for certification. MHMR Services will pay for each certification. However, should individual fail to receive certification, they would be responsible for any additional course work required to obtain certification.
Valid Texas driver’s license is required (Must not have more than three (3) moving violations in the last three (3) years, and proof of current liability insurance.)
Certification in CPR, First Aid, and PMAB is required. This position will maintain other training and/or certification deemed necessary by TX Health and Human Services and/or this Center. Certified Peer Specialist preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AND SPECIAL SKILLS: A minimum of five years experience working with and/or training persons with intellectual disabilities and mental illness in a vocational setting is required. Knowledge of consumer care techniques, and goal implementation. Ability to coordinate schedules and work activities. Knowledge of basic record keeping, documentation, and report writing. Ability to analyze a job and break into manageable components. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple schedules and deadlines. Ability to meet the public and participate in public speaking engagements. Knowledge of interviewing and assessment techniques and procedures.
