The pyschiatric provides nursing services to children and adolescents who have mental illness and are admitted into the Center's outpatient mental health program. The nurse performs a variety of nursing, patient care, and medical office tasks of average difficulty. Duties include documenting medical conditions, vital signs and medications, monitoring medications, instructing patients and guardians in proper medical techniques, making referrals for appropriate medical services and monitoring and disseminating results of medical services provides by other professionals.
EDUCATION: Graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse program accredited by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas. Must possess a calid Texas Class "C" driver's license and must be insurable on the Center's insurance. Additionally, no more than three moving violations in the last three years.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Experience working with people who have mental illness preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Working knowledge of clinical/nursing practices procedures. Ability to apply professional nursing skills, techniques and methods. Knowledge of medical office procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of resources used on the job, such as medical reference and drug books. Knowledge of and ability to use stethoscopes, thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, scales and related equipment. Ability to read and interpret physician's orders. Ability to plan, organize and perform work in an effeicient and timely manner. Ability to perform work requiring attentino to detail. ability to communicate effectively, to exercise good judgment, and to establish good relationships with patients and coworkers. Demonstrated, either through experience or education, ability to work in a rapid pace environment in an organized and professinal manner. Ability to self-monitor production and quality with minimal assistance. Basic knowledge and familiarity with business software such as Mircosoft Word. Computer and typing skills are required for success in this job. Knowledge of spelling and grammar. The ability to work as a team member in a diverse environment interfacing with both internal and external customes/provides.
